Summary

On 10 June 2025, the Spanish Government approved the most significant update to the official traffic sign catalog since 2003. The new signs came into force on the 1st of July 2025, and the DGT confirmed a minimum 3-month transition before including them in exams. That transition period has passed, so these signs are already appearing in theoretical exams for the Permiso B. In this article we show you every new and modified sign with images, explain the work-zone color rule, and show you how to study them with ConducIA.

Based on official DGT press release (10 June 2025) and Revista DGT No. 275 (October 2025).

Retired signs and the new work-zone color rule

Signs that have been removed from the catalog must be physically taken down within 1 year of the regulation coming into force. You may still see them on roads during the transition.

A key visual change: work-zone signs now use a yellow background with black symbols instead of the usual white background with red borders. This makes temporary signage much more visible and clearly distinct from permanent infrastructure.

Work-zone color rule

Left: traditional permanent sign (white background, red border). Right: new temporary work-zone sign (yellow background, black symbols). Both convey the same speed limit, but the yellow version signals a temporary restriction in an active construction area.

When do these signs appear in the theoretical exam?

The DGT confirmed that new sign content would not enter exams immediately, granting a minimum 3-month transition after 1 July 2025 to allow manual updates and student preparation. That grace period ended in October 2025, meaning these signs are now part of the active question bank.
